Steelbreakers Update v0.3.0 - Solo/Co-Op Mode, Bugfixes


This update includes changes for the demo to allow you try the game by yourself if you don’t have a gamepad or friends able to play with you (understandable)! As a side note, if you are interested in testing the game out with your friends online, I would recommend trying out a really cool low-latency game streaming tool called Parsec that lets your friends connect to your game and play with you! Please note that extra players will still need gamepads, so only one can use the keyboard.

Features

  • Added Discord rich game presence so that you can show off your status to your friends!

  • NEW GAME MODE (available in the demo)!

    • Wave Defense
      • Select the number of waves you want to fight, and defeat all of the enemy NPCs to win! You can play this mode solo or team up with your friends for co-op play!
      • New Monster NPCs added for this mode:
        • Rats
          • Non-aggro until attacked. Low health.
        • Bats
          • Aggressive but low health. Will float over pressure plates and pits.
        • Goblin Rogue
          • Fast-moving melee enemy.
        • Goblin Sniper
          • Ranged enemy. Will move to position and shoot from a distance.
        • Troll
          • Slow-moving, but large attack area and higher damage. Can aggro to other creeps unprovoked.
        • Spider
          • Fast-moving attacker.
  • Added taunts. These map to additional button inputs and can be configured in the options. Make fun of your friends in-game with this fun little feature. :)

Quality of Life improvements

  • NPCs are now less likely to walk into walls or pits.
  • NPCs can now walk diagonally when pathfinding to a player in an open space.
  • Backing out of Objective Select no longer boots you to the Main Menu.
  • Updated the visual flair of the Objective Select menu to show whether an objective can be played in Free-For-All/Teams/Co-Op/Solo.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed bug where two players picking up the same liftable object would cause one player to get animation locked and be unable to move.
  • Fixed issue where if the Relic entity were thrown into a pitt offstage, it would make a horrible sound effect and not respawn to a reachable position.
  • Fixed issue where there would be a loud sound when a player was low health and one was holding the Relic at the same time.
  • Fixed issue where low health chirp SFX would continue to play while the game was paused.
  • Fixed issue where a player could hit cancel and open the weapon select menu at the same time on the character select screen.
  • Fixed issue where loaded controller configs from disk would treat a player’s victory medals as the ones belonging to Keyboard1.
  • Added check to reset the position of players that somehow make it out of bounds.
  • Fixed issue where a player falling into a pit could cause them to respawn on top of an entity with collision.
  • Fixed bug where clash sfx from weapons help while strafing would repeat every frame and get very loud.
  • Fixed bug where players could stand near an interactable object, charge their weapon and strafe away, then buffer a context action to interact with a distant object.

Misc

  • Adjusted Orc walk speed.
  • Improved performance of Pit entities in the game loop, so maps with lots of pits should see reduced CPU usage.
  • Added global notifications system used for debug tools and Next Wave notifications.
  • Changed save files location to a subfolder in the installed folder. This should fix an issue when using the itch.io app which would create a new temporary directory and wipe it on closing the game would cause save data to be lost. However, this means you will need to update your configs once since your existing settings will not be used if you had an older version installed.
